Psalm 119 is made up of prayers to God, praises to God, and protestation unto God. The subject is "the Law of the Lord." It is an "alphabet psalm," because it contains the principles of all knowledge and wisdom. It repeats each letter eight times - the number of perfection. The Word of God is the only treasure-house of true wisdom. It is a testimony to God's character. It is God's Law and a plain rule of conduct, a guide placed clearly in man's sight...a map to show the way. It speaks of that which is holy, just, and good...just like our God. The psalmist said, "Let Your tender mercies come to me that I may live, for Your Law is my delight."
