The book of Proverbs is part of the "wisdom literature": Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and some of the Psalms. The theme can be summed up as practical wisdom, resting upon and rising out of religious character. The Proverbs are divided into five classes: historical, metaphorical, enigmas, parabolic, and didactical. The moral teachings are divided as: our duty to God, our relationship with others, our obligation to monitor ourselves, our domestic duties, as well as our political and civil life. Jesus Christ is the ultimate embodiment of wisdom: He is Wisdom eternal, Who created all things, the Wisdom that is the Beloved of God. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
